The Great Game: Kanhlengo Topic

Keywords: Registers

Archaic consonant clusters (S+{F, V, K, G, or Ü}, word-initially) have been retained for poetic effect and for affectation of exceptionally high register (e.g. laws, official announcements, mythos).  S+ is often realised as Sə+ by those less adept at pronouncing clusters.

Would-be fancier speakers sometimes 'reintroduce' the S into words that never historically had it, and occasionally even into words beginning with M or N, where historically no clustering would have been permitted.
